Notes for Kathleen Mummery - Direct Ancestor (Family North American Pioneer)
Kathleen Mummery was born 11 April 1926, in Croydon, Surrey, England, the daughter of Leslie William Mummery and Mary Barnes. In July 1943 she met Gordon Wesley Udell, son of George Wesley Udell and Rosemary Harper, during World War II. He was stationed at Redhill, Surrey at the time. They were married on 18 March 1944 in Northolt, Middlesex, London. She emigrated to Canada on board the ship “Ille de France”, arriving in Halifax in April 1946 and took a 5-day train trip to Edmonton, Alberta. They lived at Breton and Edmonton Alberta before moving to Valemount B.C. at Christmas 1953. They raised 7 children in a log house with no running water and a wood burning stove for heat and cooking purposes. Gordon did many things for the community, including being the third Mayor for a number of years.
