-Thomas Spencer was born in 1607 at Stotfold, Bedfordshire, England. He along with his brothers emigrated to Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1633. He was a Puritan. He relocated in 1636 to Hartford. He served in the Pequot War in 1637. He married Ann Derifield before 1639. He served on the Petit Jury in 1650 through 1652 and 1655, 1659, 1661 and 1662. He was Sergeant of the Train Band and Chimney Viewer in 1650. Thomas was Surveyor of Highways in 1672. Thomas was a Joiner by Trade and had a woodworking shop in Hartford that he bequeathed to one of his sons. He is on the monument in Hartford to the Founders of Hartford, Connecticut.
 
Their son Obadiah Spencer married Mary Desborough, daughter of Nicolas Desborough and Mary Bronson. In the next generation their son John Spencer married Sarah Smith, daughter of Joseph Smith and Lydia Huit.
