In 1913 Doris lost an eye. In the spring of 1915 she had a severe attack of appendicitis. She had just recovered from measles when friends took her of for a wagon ride. The wagon had a flat deck with no side boards. Unfortunately she fell off the side of the wagon and went under the wheels. She died about an hour later.
