Notes for Murdoch Senior McLeod - DDirect Ancestor (Family North American Pioneer)
-Murdock McLeod was born about 1780 at Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland. He married Effie McNicol. In 1817 he came with his uncle Reverend Norman McLeod to Pictou, Nova Scotia, then settled in St. Ann’s Cape Breton Island, Nova, Scotia. Norman McLeod had trouble getting along with the Church of Scotland, that for him necessitated the move. The story goes they built their own ships in Scotland and sailed to North America. In 1851 Rev. Norman McLeod moved a lot of his community to Australia and finally to Waipu, New Zealand where they finally settled. Most of Murdoch McLeod family lived on in Canada.
His grandson, Angus McLeod was born at St. Ann’s, Cape Breton, before his father moved the family to Kincardin, Bruce County, Ontario. Angus McLeod was the father of John Alexander McLeod, husband to Annie Jane Burns, daughter of John Nelson Burns and Catherine Kirk.
