-Willem Jansen Traphagen was born on 16 August 1616 at Lempo, Lippener Landkreis, Nordheim-Westfalen, Germany. He married Joosje Willems van Noortwyck who was born on 15 January 1636 at Sloterdijk, Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. During the 30 Years War Lempo was put under siege by the Palatine-Swedish Army so the family moved to Amsterdam. There he worked as a journeyman baker. They immigrated to New Amsterdam in then moved to Kingston, New York in approximately 1687. He has been described as “a man with a fiery temper that tended to get him into trouble”. He was involved in a lot of court cases.
Their daughter Rebecca married Pieter Pietersen Oosatrander.
