William James Knowles, a famous Irish Archaeologist, who worked as a land agent at Ballymena stated that his ancestor John Knowles received land for his military service with Cromwell, but lost the land upon the restoration. He continued to live in the Ballymena area. His son Patrick lived to the age of 106.
