Notes for General Charles Howard
Joined the Coldstream Guards in 1716 and became lieutenant-colonel in 1719.
Appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Carlisle in 1725.
Appointed colonel and aide-de-camp to King George II in 1734.
In 1738 recieved the command of the 19th Regiment of Foot, known as the Green Howards. Mathew Udall from Ellastone, Staffordshire joined the Green Howards about 1763.
In 1752 appointed Governor of Fort George and Fort Augustus Governor of Inverness for life.
Promoted to General in 1765.
