Notes for Florence Mary Alberta Fisk - Direct Ancestor
Florence had many sorrows during her life, she loss her first husband Edward O’Leary after just 8 years of marriage, as well as her second husband William Mummery, who died several years after World War I. She also lost her youngest sons by both her husbands, Frederick William O’Leary who had been wounded with shrapnel in the head, and took his life on 21 April 1921 “he could no longer take the pain”. Her youngest son by her second husband William Mummery, died in 1940 of Ashma, my mother remembers him increasing the use of breathing salts to try and breath. Florence had also been at the bedside of Frederick’s wife, Eva Ann Horne, when she died of the Spanish Flu in 22 October 1918, Eva Ann was pregrant at the time. Twelve days later her grandson Herbert Edward O’Leary also died of the Spanish Flu on 3 November 1918.” Again Frederick’s mother was nursing him, this time at her house (39 Percy Road South Norwood).
