George left Stromness, Scotland in June of 1850 and six weeks later arrived at York Factory. He worked for the HBC from 1850 to 1877, generally around Edmonton, although initially he was at Fort Garry in Winnipeg and built York Boats. He settled at Athabacsca Landing.
