He served in the army of King Victor Emmanuel II. After his term he went to Paris and learned the trade of House Painter. He joined the French Army during the sewige of Paris by the Germans in 1870. He came ot Canada after the war in 1872, landing in Montreal in 1875 he married Rose Delima Millote and they aettled in Lanark where they had four daughter and a son.
