Notes for Chief (Sachem) Nauset Aspinet - Nawset Tribe (Algonquin) - Direct Ancestor
The Nauset tribe lived in Cape Cod, Massachusetts close to their relatives the Wampanoag. They were on friendly terms with the Puritans, were the first to witness the Mayflower and the settlers from England. Chief Nauset Aspinet was the Chief of the Nauset Tribe at this time and is said to have brought food to the Pilgrims first Thanksgiving Celebration. The Nauset were the Pilgrims closest allies and most became Christians, assisting the Pilgrims against the Wampanoag, including during King Phillips War. They intermarried with the Pilgrims. There were about 1500 members in the tribe when the Pilgrims arrived and many died from disease so the number dwindled. The tribe is now part of the Wampanoag Tribe.
